Gardener Ranch | Yekun & Jimmy

Yekun and Jimmy got ready right alongside their closest people, and the morning had that easy, laughing energy from the very first pour of champagne. Jimmy pulled on a navy suit in dappled shade while Yekun's bridesmaids raised a toast in pink robes just steps away, and by the time she slipped into a red floral qipao for the first part of the day, the whole house felt like it was holding its breath for what came next.

One of my favorite parts of the morning was the quiet tea ceremony Yekun shared with her parents. She poured and served with so much care, tea passed hand to hand in small red cups, red envelopes exchanged with her mom and dad seated together on the settee. It was tender and unhurried, the kind of moment that reminds you a wedding day is really about family first.

After the tea was poured and the last envelope tucked away, it was time for Yekun to change into her gown. Her mom helped button her into the dress the same way she had helped her into the qipao, and I caught the smallest details along the way, a delicate henna design traced across her palm, the hush of the room as the mirror came into view.

Jimmy's face when he turned around and saw her for the first time is exactly why I love this job. They held onto each other's hands under the trees, both of them grinning, and Yekun's bouquet of soft pink and white blooms caught the morning light perfectly.

Their wedding party brought so much joy to the afternoon, groomsmen cracking each other up in their charcoal suits, bridesmaids in dusty pink gowns laughing together under a canopy of bare branches. Every group photo turned into its own little celebration.

Gardener Ranch sits along the banks of the Carmel River, twenty four acres of oak trees and open meadow just outside Carmel Valley Village. Yekun and Jimmy said their vows in a grove of trees, wine barrels dressed in peach and cream florals marking the aisle. It is a setting that lets the landscape do most of the talking.

Their ceremony was full of laughter as much as tears, vows read through smiles, hands held tight while their families and friends looked on from wooden folding chairs. When they finally kissed as husband and wife, the whole grove erupted.

We stole Yekun and Jimmy away afterward for portraits while the light was still soft, and a garden swing wrapped in vines became one of our favorite backdrops of the day. She laughed every time it swung a little too high.

The reception grounds were dressed in the same soft palette from the ceremony, blush and cream florals on every table, a simple round cake, and a seating chart tucked among fresh blooms at the entrance. Long farm tables stretched out under the trees as guests found their seats for the evening.

Toasts ran long and funny, and by the time the dancing started nobody was holding back, first dance twirls, a shoe kicked off mid spin, friends pulling Yekun and Jimmy into the middle of the floor again and again.

Yekun and Jimmy, thank you for letting me spend your wedding day with you both. The way your families showed up for you, the traditions you carried into the morning, and the sheer joy on the dance floor made this one I will not forget.
